The Kararese Protestant Christian Association (KPCA) which was established in 1937, was the brainchild of Mr.”Eddy” Sucheta. Established as a non-profit public trust, the main objective of the KPCA was to fulfill Christ's social, moral and spiritual mission of providing support and care to fellow humans in their times of need, thereby giving them a true sense of the privilege that comes from knowing how much God loves and values them.
The idea of the association caught on amongst the community members, who rallied around Mr. Sucheta to form the association in Mumbai (erstwhile Bombay) and the rest, as they say is history. Many stalwarts were instrumental in laying the foundation and lending impetus to the growth of the KPCA. These people will always be remembered for their great contribution. Of them, Mr. D P Melville deserves a special mention, for his
unstinting support, right from the beginning.
The Association had its’ first office in Clare Road, Byculla which had a Gym, Library and Table Tennis tables. Music classes and choir practice was also conducted there on a regular basis. Members eagerly looked forward to the arrival of the Harvest Festival, which was celebrated with the annual sports events and a lot of bonhomie. Christmas time was another favorite time for the community to get together to listen to the KPCA choir, comprising of the best voices in the community. KPCA also represented the community for the “Carol Nite”, an inter-denomination Carol Singing held under the stars on the sands of the Chowpatty beach.
Through the years, KPCA has sponsored students’ education, thanks to the generosity of its members and also by raising funds thru events like movies, musicals etc., It still continues to do so.
KPCA then moved to Ghatkoper, its’ present office.
